The ilioinguinal approach allows access to the anterior portions of the pelvis. Indirect digital evaluation of the posterior portions can be performed. This approach is typically used to approach fractures of the anterior wall and column, anterior posterior hemi transverses fractures, both column fractures and rarely transverse fractures. Image 3 is an example of an anterior plus posterior hemi transverse acetabular fracture treated through an ilioinguinal approach (Image 4).
