Overview
The ZMS Intramedullary Fixation System combines versatility andsimplicity. The unique design of the ZMS (Femoral, Tibial, Humeral,and Recon Nails) offeris several advantages: efficient balance between highstrength and flexibility, exceptional precision through simplified instrumentation,versatility to meet a variety of patient indications and surgeon needs andpreferences; and the option to ream or not ream.

Features & Benefits

  • The Femoral and Recon Nails are anatomically bowed to accommodate the curvature of the medullary canal. The Tibial Nail is angled distally and proximally, and the Humeral Nail is angled proximally to match anatomic contours and aid in insertion.
  • Four flutes divide each nail's surface into four distinct points of contact for positive fixation, offering the option to use the nail unlocked or locked in either the dynamic or static mode.
  • The distal tip of a ZMS Nail is reduced by 1 or 2mm in diameter for easier insertion and extraction.
    This graduated conical shape also facilitates intramedullary passage across the fracture fragments.
  • The proximal end is threaded and keyed to provide a precise fit with the targeting instrumentation.
  • In the larger diameter nails, the sawcut provides just enough flexibility for anatomical considerations.
  • The double-threaded, low-profile design of the locking screws allows for fast insertion with less soft tissue trauma.

Technologies

  • ZMS Nails are manufactured from 316L shot-peened stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance. Areas of high stress are reinforced with extra material.
  • The patented surface finish enhances fatigue strength by 32%.

Instrumentation

  • A single set of instruments, designed for accuracy and simplicity, is used for all four ZMS Nails. A great deal of attention was given to targeting. Also available are lightweight, polyarylether sterilization cases and trays with molded cavities for secure instrument storage.

Support

  • Zimmer sales associates and finance/purchasing personnel provide expert technical support to the hospital medical staff and administrative personnel.
  • Zimmer maintains an extensive inventory and provides local distribution or rapid delivery. Orders are fully automated for accuracy and speed.

Education
Zimmer continues its support of the surgeon and OR staff through quality,continuing medical education programs and materials, and by offering bioskillsworkshops, special courses at AAOS meetings, surgical techniques, and clinicalsupport data. Zimmer provides access to surgeon designers through teleconferencesand one-on-one training sessions. The Zimmer Mobile Learning Center bringsadvanced training and information right to the surgeon.
